Poneman Named Men’s Executive Tournament Director For Cayman Islands Classic

GEORGETOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS — Daniel Poneman has been named executive tournament director for the Cayman Islands Classic men's basketball tournament.

Poneman, who brings years of experience in college basketball, athlete development, and event management, will oversee all aspects of the tournament’s men’s division. Known for his leadership and deep relationships across the basketball landscape, Poneman has earned a strong reputation for connecting programs, coaches, and athletes at every level of the game.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dan to the Cayman Islands Classic team,” said Joe Wright, chief executive officer of the Cayman Islands Classic. “His passion for the sport, innovative mindset, and proven track record in building successful basketball initiatives make him the perfect fit to help us elevate this tournament to new heights.”

Poneman also serves as chief executive officer of WEAVE, an athlete representation and sports management agency specializing in college basketball and NIL opportunities. His leadership there has centered on empowering athletes through education, personal growth, and career development—values that align closely with the Cayman Islands Classic’s mission of excellence and innovation.

The seventh annual Cayman Islands Classic will be held Nov. 23–25, featuring George Washington, McNeese State, Middle Tennessee, and Murray State.
