Hot shooting George Washington tops Middle Tennessee, 92-79

GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS – George Washington had its sights in focus Monday night, shooting a blistering 57 percent from the field and 50 from long range on the way to a 92-79 victory over Middle Tennessee on the second night of the seventh annual Cayman Islands Classic.
 
GW improved to 6-1 overall while Middle Tennessee fell to 4-2. Both team are 1-1 in the Classic field. 
 
Senior center Rafael Castro led the way with 21 points for the Revolutionaries, hitting 7-for-9 from the floor and 7-of-8 at the free throw line. Christian Jones added 16 points and five assists to the victory, hitting 7-for-8 from the field, while Bubu Benjamin scored 11 and Trey Autry had 10.
 
Torey Alston paced the Blue Raiders with 17 points and seven rebounds. Chris Loofe was 5-for-7 from the field for 13 points while Alec Oglesby drained 4-of-5 from long range and added 13.
 
George Washington built a 13-point lead midway in the first half, 24-11, with 11:25 to play before Alec Ogelsby ignited a charge by Middle Tennessee. An 18-6 stretch for the Blue Raiders included three 3-pointers by Oglesby and pulled MT within one point. 

Tre Dinkins drained a 3-pointer for GW, and when the Blue Raiders once again pulled within a single point at 36-35, Dinkins knocked down another bomb with four minutes before the intermission. GW went 5-for-6 at the line and took an eight-point lead into halftime, 49-41.
 
GW was able to return to a 13-point advantage early in the second half, and systematically increased it. The largest lead of the night was 24 points, coming with 4:29 remaining with an 88-64 score.
 
The Revolutionaries made 10 steals and were able to turn 14 Middle Tennessee turnovers into a 23-9 advantage in points off turnovers. The lone lead of the night for MTSU was 4-2, just 1:15 into the game. 
 
Middle Tennessee wraps up play at the Cayman Islands Classic Tuesday with a 5 p.m. clash against McNeese, while George Washington finishes its trip to Paradise in a 7:30 p.m. meeting with Murray State.
