GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS – Javon Jackson took an inbounds pass and raced the length of the floor, dropping in a contested layup with 1.2 seconds to play to lift Murray State to a 96-95 victory over George Washington Tuesday night to put an exclamation point on the 2025 Cayman Islands Classic.
Murray earned its first win in the tournament, going 1-2, and improved to 5-3 for the season. George Washington also posted a 1-2 mark in the islands, leaving with a 6-2 overall record.
Jackson finished the night with 24 points, hitting 10 of his 20 shots, including two 3-pointers. He was one of four Racers in double figures. Roman Domon, who scored double figures in all three tournament games and finished his visit to Cayman with 37 points and 21 rebounds, scored 15 against GW and grabbed eight rebounds. Fred King added 10 points and nine rebounds, while Mathis Courbon added 10.
Six different GW players scored in double figures, led by Rafael Castro’s double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Castro went 12-for-14 at the free throw line. Garrett Johnson scored 17, Christian Jones added 14, Trey Autry and Jean Aranguren had 11 each, and Bubu Benjamin scored 10.
With Murray holding a 93-90 lead in the final minute, Autry connected on a 3-pointer from the wing with 47 seconds to play to knot things at 93-all. Following one free throw by King to push the Racers ahead, 94-93, Autry took a feed from Castro and scored a layup with just six seconds left for a 95-94 GW advantage.
That set the stage for Jackson’s rush and game-winning basket.
Murray led by two at halftime, 45-43, setting the stage for a shootout in the second period. Murray State shot 58.1 percent in the second half and finished the contest hitting 53.9 percent overall (36-of-68). GW connected on 56.3 percent in the second half, ending the contest at 50.8 percent (31-of-61).
Murray finished the contest with a 40-30 rebound margin.
