GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS – Sophomore guard Gabby Reynolds scored 18 points, leading a quarter of Revolutionaries in double figures as George Washington (3-5) claimed an 81-67 victory over Charlotte (4-5) Saturday afternoon in the Cayman Islands Classic in John Gray Gymnasium.
Reynolds was 6-for-9 from the floor including hitting all three of her 3-point tries. In addition to her game-high 18 points, she added four rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Emma Theodorsson came off the bench to add 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting, while Sara Lewis and Mia James netted 12 points each. James had five rebounds and four assists, as well.
Taliah Cornish led Charlotte with 14 points and Zoe Best had 13, while Janavia Gage posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
GW shot 54.5 percent from the field for the game, hitting 27-for-50.
George Washington had ownership of the first period, shooting a blistering 72.7 percent (8-of-11) in the first 10 minutes to claim a 24-18 lead. The Revolutionaries showed excellent ball sharing, recording eight assists on their first eight baskets.
GW was able to wedge a little more space in the margin in the second quarter, creeping out to a 10-point lead midway in the period at 30-20.
The Revolutionaries continued to hold the hot hand in the third period, shooting 54 percent (6-of-11) and held their advantage, despite Charlotte claiming a 21-18 edge in the period. GW led 56-49 at the horn.
Charlotte went on a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter and crept to within one point, 56-55, but George Washington recovered. The Revolutionaries responded with an 8-0 run of their own, all eight points by Theodorsson. From there, GW was able to increase its lead back to double figures. The closest Charlotte came was nine points, 73-64, with 2:49 to play.
