GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS – Sa’Mya Wyatt scored 22 points and Brooke Moore had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for St. John’s (7-1) to close out the 2025 Cayman Islands Classic with a 84-73 victory over Memphis (4-5) Saturday night in John Gray Gymnasium.
The pair led a Red Storm attack that shot a blazing 60.4 percent from the field (32-for-53), helping to overcome 21 turnovers. Wyatt shot 11-for-17 while Moore was 6-for-7.
Beautiful Waheed added 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists while Janeya Grant finished with11 points for St. John’s. The Red Storm combined for 23 assists.
Four players reached double figures for Memphis, topped by Chae Harris with13 points and five assists. Daejah Richmond added 12 points and three steals, while Tamaya Smith and Jordan Hunter scored 11 points each.
After falling behind 8-3 out of the gate, St. John’s answered with an 8-0 run to take the lead. The Red Storm then closed the first quarter with another 8-0 run to build a double-figure lead at 23-13. SJU shot 9-of-11 in the opening stanza, but also suffered nine turnovers.
Memphis won the battle in the second quarter, outscoring the Red Storm 17-12 and sneaking back within five by halftime, 35-30. St. John’s woes continued in the turnover column with 17 by the break.
St. John’s cooled off to 50 percent in the third quarter and was able to slowly build its lead to as many as 15, that coming with a 62-47 lead with 44 seconds remaining in the quarter.
The lead remained in double figures for much of the fourth quarter, reaching 17 points at 79-62 with 2:59 to play on a 3-pointer by Grant.
Memphis had one final charge, getting back to within eight points at 79-71 with 50 seconds left but the Red Storm managed 5-for-6 at the free throw line down the stretch.
